New to Privacy and security

alphaWorks provides emerging privacy and security technologies from IBM Research and development labs. Along with the technology downloads, there are demos, discussion forums, and resources that allow you to interact with creators of the technology and the broader user community.

1. What are privacy and security?

Security technologies cover business intelligence, Web privacy, system and database security, encryption, and a range of sophisticated niche tools.

2. Getting started with emerging privacy and security technology

alphaWorks's privacy and security technologies fall into the following categories:

  • Access: Tools for defining, controlling and protecting access
  • Identity Management: Tools that define, monitor and report identity
  • Risk: Risk analysis and management tools
  • Utilities: Utilities focus on methods of removing or reducing vulnerabilities of different computer operating systems in order to protect information. Utilities include password security and encryption.

Get started with the following technologies:

  • Web Services Interface Definition for Intrusion Defense: An Eclipse plug-in that validates the WSDL interface specification of a Web service, flagging any interface feature that could open a door to hacker attacks against that service.

  • XML Security Suite: A tool that provides security features such as digital signature, encryption, and access control for XML documents.

  • P3P Policy Editor: A visual tool, with an easy-to-use interface, for creating a Web site's privacy policy in the P3P language, which can be interpreted by Web browsers and other user agents that support the Platform for Privacy Preferences Project (P3P) specification from the W3C.
